the best documentary film is janwaar. it has a good story and has things like animals. the movie has many things to notice like a horse a goat and a cow. and that is why I think that janwaar is the best documentary film. — LR

I think that the best documentary was Janwaar. I think this because it informs people about what is going on in Janwaar. It tells about how people and kids live in Janwaar. It also tell about how much people's lives changed just by getting one skate park in Janwaar. Before they would do chores everyday in their free time because there was nothing else they could do, now there is skate park where people can make friends. Those are reasons why I thought Janwaar was the best documentary film. — AM

I am voting for Janwaar for the best documentary. I picked this documentary because it was put together very well and brought more awareness about what is happening in Janwaar and how it informs you about how much skateboarding has help the kids there stop doing drugs and smoking or convince them not to do those thing at all. The evidence from the documentary helped me make up my mind about what documentary to choose because in Little Miss Sumo it was a great film but the main thing I got from the film was to keep believing in yourself and keep going which I've learned about a lot. In Janwaar it talks about things that I have not learned about yet and I liked how it raised awareness about how things are there. — EG

I picked this film because, it is interesting and fascinating how they can make a skate park out of nothing and everyone has a skate board and they can go skating whenever. Why this is my favorite one because, its so fascinating and funny because it comes out of scratch and every single person has a skate board. My reasoning why this is my favorite is its heart warming of how happy they are with skateboards in their life. - CK

I think that Janwar is the best documentary film because it shows us that you can experience so much happiness from something even if you're having a difficult time in life. The reason why I picked Janwar was because it captures moments of happiness from people that don't have a lot in life and and another reason why I picked was because they had felt so much contentment from one thing which was skateboarding. In the movie everyone is very poor and they live in very bad conditions but when it came to skateboarding it seemed like it had solved all their problems and made them so happy. This proves that skateboarding has made them very happy and very content and I think the movie shows us that we should be grateful for what we have because we have so much and we continue to not be happy but there other people in this world that have nothing and are still happy. — LA

I enjoyed the film Janwaar. This is a great short film, i know this because i love to skateboard. The film is very inspiring. In the movie kids love skateboarding, they would play on their skateboards every day after school.. People would save up money and then they built a skate park for all the kids. i think that Ice Merchants is the best animated film. The reason i think that Ice Merchants is the best animated film is because it shows us what the father and son's life is and how their house was falling and what they did and it shows that the father did the same thing with the mom before she died and how they survived by falling on the hats that fell off their heads while they went down the mountain. — JB

The best animated film is Ice Merchants. I chose this because the story line was not revealed but inferred and the graphics were great and there was no dialogue which adds on to the movie. All of these make overall a unique style of animated films and movies, which I like. — MM

Ice Merchants was the best animated film. The storytelling was great, even without any dialog. It was short and sweet, but also a bit sad. The climax of the film was amazing, but unexpected, as well as the ending. If I had the chance to watch this again I would gladly take it. I also really like the bond between the father and son, the father cares a lot about the son. This was the best short film I've seen. — AJ

I believe that the ice merchant is the best animated film.I believe this is because it is just a cool film.I like that they live on a mountain.it is also kinda of sad.the sadness is the so called dead mom.And that the ice was melting,and they wouldnt be able to support there buisness. — ES

I chose Ice Merchants because of the story, characters, and the setting ect but what I thought something also liked about the film was its art style I think it was very nice looking also the charter design was something you don't see often like the dad his legs where way longer than your average height these are some reasons I like Ice Merchants. the evidence I have is that during the film the dad/merchant owns a house on the side of a cliff and has a son they freeze ice up there and sell it the dad spends time with his son and make sure he gets time to do what ever the son helps his dad on the journey and one time at the house he got his dad a drink but used the cup his mother used and his dad puts it back because she has passed. lastly the reason this evidence supports the claim is because this all shows the reason I chose this film ( at least I hope it does) like why the story was good the characters and more this why I think the Ice Merchants it the best animated film we have wacthed. — LN

I think Ice Merchants are the best because in the film you can see that they communicate like they talk in sign language or using sound to tell stuff to each other. The reason why I pick Ice Merchants is because you can see how the setting starts off normal and starts to get more emotional and sad the way the film progresses though. — TM

my favorite character is dad from are baby knowns because he talks to his son about racism and brings up basketbal a makes the story less hurtful for the son. — KC

I think the best character is the dad in Our Baby Knows. I think he is the best because he is funny and he teaches his son a big lesson about racism. He makes stories about Basketball and Basketball players to cheer his son up since he had to separate from his friend since his friend is white and the son is black. He teaches him that it does not matter what color you are but we are all equal. He is a good character because he teaches you a lesson and you can understand it really well and he is very funny. That is why I think the dad is the best character. — JD

I think the dad from the story our baby knows is the best character because. He does a really good job at acting out the scenes and he kept me on my toes when he was telling the stories to the son and. He also kept the story going and i love the way he used the stuff the boy liked. To explain why the boys friend's parents wont let him hang out with his friend and he kept the suspense going till the end.so that concludes why the dad should be the best character. — EB

Father from " Our Baby Knows " is heroic and courageous. In the amazing short film he explained to his young child, that people are going to treat him differently just because of the color of his skin. And then he combated that with a fun cheerful story to cheer up his child and make their bond even better. The Father was a light in a dark time for his child and he really knows how to be a great parent in any situation. Father has gone through this himself and would hate for his child to experience racism. The Father is heroic, courageous, and would do anything for his child . — KA

The dad and his stories were AMAZING, I loved how he portrayed racism in such a light he didn't even say "racism". He told stories and mixed in the explanation so that, in my opinion, lessen the burn of hearing the neighbors parents were to some extent racist (Even if the son of them isn't) — RM

I Think that the Dad and Son from our baby knows is the best character because I like the way it tells how some white people don't like black people. I like the way the dad keeps it in a good mood by telling a funny story first then how it's bad to judge people by their skin color.I like The son because he listen to his dad and ask questions about it.I think these two are one of the best characters of this year because they tell a real life lesson. — CS

From Lachlan Pendragon’s Oscar nominated An Ostrich Told Me the World Is Fake and I Think I Believe It

My choice is the ostrich because he is very smart and he knows that the world is fake and tells Neal and Neal tells everyone they should believe him. Then the ostrich just walk to the elevator and left that was funny, also he kicked Neal out the frame of the box. but the main reason is that it is funny in general that is my opinion. — BF

I liked the ostrich from ¨An ostrich told me the world was fake and I think I believe him¨ I liked this character because he made the story really funny. Without him in the story there would be no plot or conflict. It was also funny because it seemed like the ostrich was clueless the whole story but at the same time he was making Neal think that the world was fake. Before the ostrich came in everyone was just typing, which was boring to me. Then the ostrich came in and it became funny. The ostrich was my favorite overall because he was the only character that I noticed that made the story better and it would not have been as good without the ostrich. —ML

My favorite character is the ostrich because it feels like a necessary character in a story like this one. It adds the right amount of humor in a story about the world not being real. Even though it makes no sense at all, the ostrich is an amazing character.

The ostrich from A Ostrich Told Me The World Was Fake And I Think I Believe Him. The reason why is because he is funny. The reason why he is funny is because he proves that the world is fake. Also at the end he does a funny comercial. — JT

I think the Ostrich is the best character because the Ostrich provides an interesting part. The film shows the person making it in the background but Neal goes out of the boundaries to where the Ostrich changes everything and shows Neal that the world is fake and Neal believes it but then he wakes up and it is all a dream. My evidence supports my claim because it shows that the Ostrich makes the plot weird and interesting and making you question if Neal was dreaming or not and what happens next. — JI

I think that the ostrich is the best character because it taught Neal a lesson. In the movie/film the ostrich was in Neal's imagination and told him something fascinating in him imagination and Neal believed the ostrich. Neal was trying to tell his boss what he saw and heard from the ostrich but Neal's boss did not believe him. But then whatever the ostrich had told Neal, had come true. And so that is why i think the ostrich is the best character because he teaches Neal a lesson. — AS

I picked the Cabbit because it had different personalities. At first, when the TV wanted to die, the Cabbit tried to save it. When the Cabbit died and got revived by the TV, it laughed at the TV and became mean. The evidence made me choose Cabbit because it has different personalities. — HC

I voted for the best character, the Cabbit. I chose the Cabbit because I feel like it has its own backstory. I also voted for this because I can kind of tell how he felt without him talking. Another reason I voted for the Cabbit is because he is always trying to feel good and not trying to doubt himself. The evidence connects tot he claim because the Cabbit sometimes was sad and then he would always try to cheer himself up, by trying to interact with others. — JE

I think the best character is Crabbit from golden time because he is the TV's best friend and i thought he was really likable. The evidence from the movie is that when Crabbit lost is wing up the TV went to save him and looked all over just to find the wind up thing. The reasoning is that the movie really brought out Crabbits character to be likable and i just really like Crabbit. — MG

I think Crabbit is a very good character , Crabbit has a personality that i really love , as for example Crabbit has to rewind once in a while but it makes it silly when the time comes to rewind. For example the cooler where they put their water to freeze one day it didn't freeze and a bunch of snow fell on their house and fell so that told me that climate change was affecting them. LOVE FOR THE OTHER NOMINEES …

I chose my characters by thinking of how they acted. I chose the Crabbit because he was really funny and had to stop and wind up. I also chose the ostrich because he just appears in an elevator then sits down and starts talking. Finally I chose Neal because I liked his reaction to everything. — BR

For the best picture award i picked Our Baby Knows. I voted for this film because it had many details, including stories, and other information. Our Baby Knows includes many details because the dad told a story about the Rock and an nba player ( I think it was LeBron James). This was very interesting to me because I haven't heard these stories. Also, it includes information about his relationship with his friend. The son talks to his dad about this boy's parents (Jake's Parents). Also, it gives us a hint that Jake's parents might be biased against black people because they wouldn't allow Jake to play with him. This made the story and told us most about it. So, as you can see Our Baby Knows was my favorite picture film and now you see why. — KC

For the best picture I picked little miss sumo. I enyoyed this beacuse it tells you can do anything that you put your mind to. Hiyori shows you can do anything you but your mind to by taking on the russian gilr and not quiting. not quitting the flim is a grate example of girl power beacuse she tried her best and didn't quit — ES

I think that the best animated film is ,¨ an ostrich told me the world was fake and i think i believe it.¨ This film was super interesting and i never got bored while watching it. The film was unexpected and kinda random. The plot was cool since the main character fell into the real world and you could see the other broken characters. I believe that Golden Time is the best picture because of how it shows if something is trash, you can make it into something new and beautiful. I like how the TV is old, and doesn't work as well and gets sent to the dump thinking it has no hope for itself, but i like that his friends Crabbit and the others try to help it have hope, and it works for the TV. It ended up making it happier and into a wonderful chicken coop that now has a purpose. — IJ

The best documentary is "Little Miss Sumo". "Little Miss Sumo" is the best documentary because I like the story line and the lesson it teaches. In the movie Hyori doesn't ever give up even when she loses her matches. She keeps going and pushes to do her hardest. I think a film about pudding is the best animated film. I think that because its kind of like real life. I like that it told us about sumo wrestling because I knew nothing about the sport until I watched the film. In the movie it would tell you how the sport works. I thought that An Ostrich Told Me The World was Fake, And I Think I Believe It was the best picture. I liked that one because I liked that it was a stop motion film, because I like making stop motion films and in the background, sometimes you could see the people positioning and moving the characters. Most of all, I liked the Ostrich. I liked the Ostrich because when he was talking to Neal, he had a unique perspective to life, and in the end, it just turned out that it was an office furniture commercial and that the ostrich was the mascot. — LC

The best character is Neal, the reason why this is the best pick because i relate most to him. the film is talking about how some people live and how they are stuck in a loop and cant get out and Neal is the perfect example for that. Neal was trying to get out and he was so scared he believed anything and was very gullible. This perfectly represents how gullible and how people believe anything they see and they are stuck in a loop. To sum all of this up, Neal is the best character because he best represents how gullible people are. — ET
